Whitlow <br /> <br /> the meeting was opened with a moment of silent mediation and Vice Mayor Beamer offered <br />prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Beamer presided for the meeting in the absence of the Mayor, and welcomed <br />all visitors in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, minutes of the called meeting of May 24, <br />1983; minutes of the regular meeting of May 24, 1983; minutes of a~spec&al~dall~d meeting <br />of June 1, 1983; and minutes of a special called meeting of June 6, 1983, to be approved as <br />received, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />83-224 Public Hearing on Cable Television Franchise was held. <br /> <br /> Roger. Pierce, Vice PresidentfGen~ag Manager, Cox Cable of Portsmouth, Inc.and John <br />Brockman, Regional Vice President, Cox Cable of Portsmouth, Inc., bD~h~presented statements <br />concerning the rate increase on basic monthly cable service: <br /> <br />Cities Solution <br /> <br />Cox Cable does hereby formally request the Cities' permission to adjust the <br />basic monthly cable rate from the present $8.98 oer month to $9.24 per month. <br />Cox Cable, to show good faith, would reinstate the two Washington, D. C. stations <br />(WTTG and WDCA) to the basic service by Thursday, May 26, 1983 at 5:00 p.m. <br />The Cities would achieve the $9.24 rate approval on the basic service by <br />June 30, 1983 in order to maintain carriage of the two Washington, D. Gaskill, by Pastor James H.
