Schmidt. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Webb, to close nominations and there b~ing <br />no further n~minations, the above members to be elected to the designated Board/qommission, <br />and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 84-21 On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, the following resolution was <br />adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS OF THE COUNCIL AND CITIZENS OF THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH TO THE COUNCIL AND CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF SUFFOLK ON THE <br />OCCASION MARKING THE 10TH ANNIVERSAR~OF THEi!CONSOLIDATED CITY OF SUFFOLK. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the consolidated City of <br />of the City of Nansemond (formerly the <br />ville) and the City of Suffolk; and <br /> <br />Suffolk was established in January 1974 by the merging <br />County of Nansemond and the towns of Holland and ~ale~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth and the areas now constituting the City of Suffolk have, <br />since colonial times, been geographically, culturally and commercially related while still <br />developing an individual sense of community pride; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the joint efforts of neighboring cities, as exemplified by the mutually agreed <br />Comprehensive Water Agreement of 1982, are necessary in order to improve the quality of life <br />for the citizens of both cities; and <br /> <br />t <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth recognizes the efforts of the Council and <br />the citizens of the City of Suffolk to improve the quality of life within their city and thus <br />have a positive impact on its neighboring cities and the region as a whole. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that this Council <br />on behalf of the citizens of the City of Portsmouth, extend to the Council of the City of <br />Suffolk and the citizens of that City their congratulations on the occasion marking the 10th <br />anniversary of the establishment of the consolidated City of Suffolk. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Council of <br />this City, and that a copy thereof be presented on behalf of the City of Portsmouth to the <br />Council of the City of Suffolk." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Beamer, Gray, Holley, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 84-22 - Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, to go into an executive session to <br />~ecuss the following, and was adopted by unanimous vote: <br /> <br />(1) Use, Sale, or Acquisition of <br /> Public Property; <br />(2) Consultation and Briefing on <br /> Legal Matters including <br /> Contracts and Litigation; <br /> (3) A Personnel Matter; <br />(4) Boards and Commissions. <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> <br />
