84-79 - Mr. Gray offered <br />Boards/Commissions: <br /> <br /> - NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />the following nominations <br /> <br />for appointments to the following <br /> <br />Commission of Architectural Review <br />Port Norfolk/Park View <br /> <br /> Harry Dickerson, Jr. (Port Norfolk) and Marcia L. Walsh (At-Large) for a term of one <br />year; Kirk Berkeley (Architect) and Clyde A. Toler (Park View) for a term of two years; Dan <br />Griffin (Architect), Lloyd J. Parker, Jr. (Attorney), and John H. Epperson (At-Large) for a <br />term of three years. <br /> <br />Commission of Architectural Review <br />Cradock/Olde Towne/Truxton <br /> <br /> Gracie L. Peacock to fill an unexpired term created by the replacement of Harry Dickerson <br />Jr. who was placed on the CAR-Port Norfolk/Park~View, term ending May 1, 1986. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to close nominations and there being no <br />further nominations, the above members to be elected to the designated Board/Commission, and <br />was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 84-80 - Joseph Knight, 4820 Po'rtsmouth Boulevard, representing Simonsdale Civic Club, <br />presented a proposal for drainage in the Simonsdale area which would help to eliminate some <br />of drainage problems in the area. <br /> <br /> The city Manager was directed to look into the matter. <br /> <br /> 84-81 - Mdti0n df Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, to go <br />discuss the following, and was adopted by unanimous vote: <br /> <br />(1) Use, Sale, or Acquisition of Public Property; <br />(2) Consultation and Briefing on Legal Matters <br /> including Contracts and Litigation; <br />(3) A Personnel Matter; <br />(4) Boards and Commissions. <br /> <br />into an executive session <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />L[A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING <br />TO THE VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, has created the Museum and Fine <br />Arts Commission to serve as the official consultant and advisor to the City Government and Cit <br />Council on all Museums and Fine Arts activities, programs and facilities, and authorize the <br />appointment of a director and staff by the City Manager to coordinate the City's cultural <br />activities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission for the Arts provides funding to enhance local cultural <br />programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is eligible to submit grant applications for funding <br />pursuant to regulations governing the administration and use of such funds; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City is eligible to apply for a Five Thousand Dollar ($5,000) grant for <br />general operating expenses of the Museums due to an annual increase in local contributions for <br />arts activities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City is eligible to <br />visual arts exhibit to present to the <br />artist. <br /> <br />apply for <br />community <br /> <br />a Ten Thousand Dollar ($10,000) grant for a <br />the complete works of a prominent Tidewater <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to submit an application for funding to <br />provide support for general operating expenses for local arts activities, and to submit an <br />application for funding a major retrospective exhibit of the career and art works of Charles <br />Sibley, one of Tidewater's most prominent artist and arts educator." <br /> <br /> <br />
