"Almighty God, we adore Thee, we p~ise Thee, we glorify Thy Holy name.
Accept our thanks lo-this day for strength to do our tak~, for friends and fellowship.
We thank Thee dear God for duties that keep our attention and for responsibilities
that demand our resources.
We pray for all Who hold public office and power. We thank you for all men andlwomen
who offer themselves for public service and whose lives warrant support from their
fellow citizens.
We are most grateful for our City Council and for the new members who have beenichosen
to give leadership to our city for the months and years to come.
Crown their heads with wisdom, increase their knowledge. Don't let them believ~ so
much that they stop asking questions, or question so much that they stop believing.
May they never spread themselves so thinly that they slip out of responsibilities, or
get so burdened with responsibility that they forget to refuel themselves.
Give them vi~si~n to see beyond the barriers of selfishness, or personal gains, ~nd the
courage to make hard decisions in the interest of all the people of our city.
May they never be content to walk only in the 'tracks made by others, but to be ~z~il-
blazers and adventurers in search of truth and justice.
We pray for the people Of our city, for those who watch and wait and weep; for tlhose
who keep punctual ties with grief and wakeful yigil with pain.
For those who have lost heart and listen with fear to the approaching footfalls
despair; for those whose!love has gone unnoticed; whose hungry hearts are starYeid. We
plead Thy strength.
Thou knowest dear God, the disappointed, those who scan with tired~eyes a sailleiss sea,
watching for the ships that will never come in. Those who have sought friendshiip but who
have found loneliness. BE unto them as a shadowing rock in a desert place."
