May 28~ 1~85 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the religious and private community in Portsmouth is leading efforts to establis <br />an emergency shslter thereby assisting our municipality with the burden of responsibility in <br />meeting this growing social problem: and <br /> WHEREAS, the Wesley Community Service Center is deeply concerned about <br />those less fortunate in our city and especially their need for safe, decent, <br />housing conditions at affordable costs, and further believes that mmprov~ng <br />life for the "least of us" so improves it for all of us. <br /> <br />the plight of <br />and sanitary <br />the quality of <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THIS BOARD OF DIRECTORS does hereby express its shock and dismay as its <br />members join to condemn Council's action to oppose an application for additional assisteed <br />housing. <br /> WE HAVE FURTHER RESOLVED ro call upon the Portsmouth City Ccuncil and the Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and ~ousing Authority to reas-sess the housing needs of low and moderate income <br />persons and families in Portsmouth; and to take immediate steps which will encourage and <br />promote low cost and%r subsidized housing in proportion to Portsmouth's need. <br /> WE HAVE FURTHER RESOLVED~that a copy of this resolution be read before and presented to <br />the Portsmouth City Council at its appropriate and regular meeting, and that copy be forwardec <br />to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. <br /> This resolution was unanimously adopted by the Board of Directors of the Wesley Community <br /> Service Center, ~nc. at its regular meeting of May 13, 1985. Signed by Malvin D. Twitty, <br /> President and Lillian A.
