July 25, 1985 <br /> <br />(i) "The Commissioner of The Revenue is requesting a refund of 1985 Business License to <br />Wornom's Arts & Crafts, Inc., 4082 Victory Blvd., Portsmouth, Virginia 23701. <br /> <br /> The corporation closed their business June 29, 1985, They purchased a Retail Sales <br />License based on the previous years gross and paid 6375.56 for the license. We are requestin <br />a refund of $312.96 (without interest) on the unused portion of the license. Please mail <br />refund to Wornom's Arts ~ Crafts, Inc., 9616 Hosier Street, Newport News, Virginia 23601. <br /> <br /> I recommend that Council adoFt this motion, and a refund be granted." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Gray, that authorization be granted to refund <br />for 1985 Business License to Wornom's Arts ~ Crafts, Inc. 4082 Victory Blvd,, Portsmouth, VA <br />23701, in the amount of $312.96 (without interest' as requested and was adopted by unanimou <br />vote. '' ' <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br /> 85-217 - Councilman Gray offered the following nomination-fdr appoifltment to the <br />following goard/Co~m~ission: <br /> <br />Supplemental Retirement Board <br /> <br /> Eugene C. Beacham to be appointed to fill an unexpired term ending October 1 1986- <br />replacing E. Kent Williams. ' ' <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, <br />further nominations, the above member to be elected <br />was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />to close nominations, and there being no <br />to the designated Board/Commission, and <br /> <br /> 85-218 On motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Gray, the following resolution was <br />adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE CITY OF HAMPTON ON ITS 378th ANNIVERSARY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hampton ~s recognized as the oldest, continuous English speaking <br />settlement in the United States; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hampton has a continuous haritage of involvement in all aspects of <br />American history from colonial settlement to the Revolutionary War, the War between t~e States <br />and into the Space Age of the 20th Century; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Hampton is anticipating a prosperous future through continued <br />development of the many resources of this community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Citizens of the City of Portsmouth share with their neighbors in Hampton <br />a sense of pride in the accomplishments of the past and a spirit of renaisance for the future <br />development o£ their cities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the 375th anniversary of the City of Hampton be, and the same hereby ~s, commemorated by the <br />adoption of this resolution. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, directed to forward a <br />copy of this resolution to the Mayor and Members of Council of the City of Hampton." <br /> <br />Ayes: Beamer, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Webb, Whitlow, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m. <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />ity C1 erk ~/ ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
