February 11, 2025 Ayes: Bryant, Dodson, Hugel, Moody, Thomas, Tillage, Glover Nays: None 25 - 50 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation the donation of one Demanet K9 training apprehension suit valued at approximately $1,500 by a group known as “Local Authors for PPD K9”. Background:  The K9 Unit provides security and valuable public relations work to various events and functions within the city.  The Unit provides high visibility patrols throughout the city and assists patrol officers with their duties Discussion:  The PPD is requesting that the City accept a donation from the private group “Local Authors for PPD K9” of one Demanet K9 training apprehension suit valued at approximately $1,500. The group will purchase the suit from the vendor and present the PPD K9 Unit with the completed suit. Financial Impact:  The City will have no financial responsibility for the suit. All funds have been acquired through donation and the suit will be purchased directly from the vendor. There are no annual or upkeep costs associated with this equipment Recommended Action:  Adoption of the ordinance. Next Steps Following Council Action:  Local Authors for PPD K9 will present the training apprehension suit to the PPD. Motion by Ms. Bryant, and seconded by Ms. Thomas, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: “ORDINANCE ACCEPTING WITH APPRECIATION THE DONATION OF ONE DEMANET K9 TRAINING APPREHENSION SUIT VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY $1,500 BY A GROUP KNOWN AS “LOCAL AUTHORS FOR PPD K9”. ” Ayes: Bryant, Dodson, Hugel, Moody, Thomas, Tillage, Glover Nays: None - New Business - 25 - 51 - Boards and Commissions There were no appointments. 25 - 52 - Items Submitted by Council Members Ms. Thomas asked that City Manager Carter bring back information on establishing a  Homeless Taskforce. Mayor Glover, as part of Black History Month, spoke on the contributions of African  Americans in the military. 25 - 53 - Report on Pending Items There were no pending items. 25 - 54 - Non-Agenda Speakers 1. G. W. Thompson, 4065 Wyndybrow Drive, voiced his concern with the lack of emergency shelters for the homeless during severe inclement weather.
