February 11, 2025 <br /> <br />Ayes: Bryant, Dodson, Hugel, Moody, Thomas, Tillage, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />25 - 50 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation the donation of one <br />Demanet K9 training apprehension suit valued at approximately $1,500 by a group <br />known as “Local Authors for PPD K9”. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The K9 Unit provides security and valuable public relations work to various events <br />and functions within the city. <br /> <br /> The Unit provides high visibility patrols throughout the city and assists patrol <br />officers with their duties <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The PPD is requesting that the City accept a donation from the private group “Local <br />Authors for PPD K9” of one Demanet K9 training apprehension suit valued at <br />approximately $1,500. The group will purchase the suit from the vendor and present the <br />PPD K9 Unit with the completed suit. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> The City will have no financial responsibility for the suit. All funds have been <br />acquired through donation and the suit will be purchased directly from the vendor. There <br />are no annual or upkeep costs associated with this equipment <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> Local Authors for PPD K9 will present the training apprehension suit to the PPD. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Bryant, and seconded by Ms. Thomas, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING WITH APPRECIATION THE DONATION OF ONE <br />DEMANET K9 TRAINING APPREHENSION SUIT VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY <br />$1,500 BY A GROUP KNOWN AS “LOCAL AUTHORS FOR PPD K9”. <br />” <br /> <br />Ayes: Bryant, Dodson, Hugel, Moody, Thomas, Tillage, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />25 - 51 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />25 - 52 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Ms. Thomas asked that City Manager Carter bring back information on establishing a <br /> <br />Homeless Taskforce. <br /> <br /> Mayor Glover, as part of Black History Month, spoke on the contributions of African <br /> <br />Americans in the military. <br /> <br />25 - 53 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />25 - 54 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. G. W. Thompson, 4065 Wyndybrow Drive, voiced his concern with the lack of <br /> emergency shelters for the homeless during severe inclement weather. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
