October 24, 2023 <br /> <br /> <br /> The Women in Public Service Conference Planning Committee sent a sponsorship <br />letter to businesses and organizations throughout the east coast seeking financial and In- <br />Kind donations in support of the conference. The result of the Sponsorship letter has been <br />the receipt of a donation from FESCO Emergency Sales Company. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> In August 2023, Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services received a <br />Company check from FESCO Emergency Sales Company, which has operations in <br />Virginia and Maryland, to provide a Silver Sponsorship for the WIPS Conference in 2024. <br /> <br /> The funds will be utilized to cover conference expenses as governed by the WIPS <br />Conference Sponsorship package for a Silver Sponsor. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> There is no requirement for a local cash match and\\or In-Kind services. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The Finance Department to assign the budget code. <br /> <br /> PFRES, WIPS Conference Planning Committee will handle the sponsorship <br />package for the sponsor in March 2024. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Barnes, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING WITH APPRECIATION A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT <br />OF $1,000 FROM THE FESCO EMERGENCY SALES COMPANY AND <br />APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2024 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE <br />DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR THE WOMEN <br />IN PUBLIC SERVICE CONFERENCE IN MARCH 2024.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Hugel, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Tillage, Whitaker, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />23 - 349 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation a donation in the <br />amount of $2,000 from the Atlantic Emergency Solutions Company and <br />appropriating said amount in the FY 2024 Grants Fund for use by the Department <br />of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services for the Women in Public Service <br />Conference in March 2024. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services administers and will <br />host the Women in Public Service Conference in March 2024. <br /> <br /> The purpose of the Women in Public Service Conference is to honor and promote <br />women in public service to include individuals from fire and rescue, law enforcement, <br />administration, and uniformed services, both men and women alike.
