September 13, 2022 <br /> <br /> <br /> The structure is now vacant and PRHA has expressed a willingness to deed the <br /> <br />property to the City. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The acquisition of 320 Quebec Street furthers the interest of the stormwater and <br />flood mitigation programs by preventing development in a flood hazard area. <br /> <br /> PRHA will deed the property to the City through a deed of gift. No purchase price <br />will be paid. <br /> <br /> After acquiring the property, the City will demolish the existing structure. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> No purchase price will be paid for the acquisition. After taking title to the property, <br />the City will pay for demolition of the structure on the property. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the Resolution. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The City will demolish the existing structure on the property. <br /> <br /> The City will maintain the property as open space, as it does with the numerous <br />other properties it owns in Sugar Hill. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke to adopt Item 22-157 and failed due to the lack of a <br />second. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Barnes, and seconded by Dr. Whitaker, to deny Item 22-157 and <br />was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard <br />Nays: Lucas-Burke, Glover <br /> <br />1. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke on how the property was acquired. <br /> <br />- City Manager’s Report - <br /> <br />22 - 258 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting funding in the amount of $537,599 <br />from the Portsmouth Museums Foundation and appropriating said amount in the <br />FY 2023 Grants Fund for use by the Museums Department. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Museums Foundation is the 501(c) 3 whose mission is to raise <br />private and public funds for exhibits, events and programs at the Children’s Museum of <br />Virginia <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Museums Foundation has secured funding from Sentara <br />Healthcare to expand and upgrade the Bodyworks exhibition at the Children’s Museum <br />of Virginia. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The Bodyworks exhibit at the Children’s Museum focuses on health and wellness <br />and the science of how the body works and teaches children why physical activity is <br />important. <br /> <br /> Grant funds will allow for the complete renovation and expansion of the original <br />Bodyworks exhibit on the first floor of the museum. Renovation designs have been <br />approved and demolition work is scheduled for late September. <br /> <br /> The mission of the Children’s Museum of Virginia is to encourage imagination, and <br />a lifelong love of learning by providing fun, dynamic, interactive and educational exhibits, <br />activities, and programs. A renovated Bodyworks exhibit will help the museum fulfill this <br />mission. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
