June 28, 2022 <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Finance Department will make the necessary budget adjustment. <br /> <br />1. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke in opposition to this item. <br /> <br /> <br />2. Althea Mease, 1 Guardian Court, spoke in support of this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Dr. Whitaker, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING JAIL DIVERSION FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,451 <br />FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND <br />DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2023 <br />BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE SERVICE FUND TO ASSIST WITH DIVERTING <br />INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES FROM INCARCERATION FOR <br />MISDEMEANOR OFFENSES.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />22 - 195 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation a donation by <br />Tabernacle Church in the amount of $1,000 and appropriating said funds to the FY <br />2023 Social Services Fund for use by the Department of Social Services to support <br />the Food Pantry. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Adult Services Unit of DSS operates a Food Pantry to support Portsmouth <br />citizens who may be facing food insecurity. Food is provided to assist individuals and <br />families on a temporary basis until they can be connected to long-term food assistance. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The DSS received a check from Portsmouth Chapter of the National Drifters, <br />Incorporated, in the amount of $1000.00. <br /> <br /> Donated funds are to be utilized for the Department of Social Services’ Food <br />Pantry <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> <br /> The funding available to assist citizens in need would increase by $1000.00. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> Finance will make the appropriate budget adjustments <br /> <br />1.
