May 25, 2021 <br /> <br />1. Stephen Romine, 222 Central Park Avenue, presented the application. <br /> <br />2. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, voiced his concern with the delay in <br />constructing the hotel. <br /> <br />3. Emily Reynolds, 101 West Main Street, spoke in support of this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to concur with the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission that UP-21-07 be approved on first reading, <br />and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: Barnes, Whitaker <br /> <br />- City Manager’s Report - <br /> <br />21 - 153 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation a donation of $150 <br />from Drifters Inc. and appropriating said funds to the FY 2021 Grants Fund for use <br />by the Department of Social Services to support operations of the Services Intake <br />Unit. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Department of Social Services, Adult Services Intake Unit Division provides <br />support services to individuals and families who may need assistance with companion <br /> <br />services, food, utilities, mortgage and rental assistance. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The DSS received a check from Drifters Inc. in the amount of $150. <br /> <br /> Donated funds were requested to be used for the DSS food pantry. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> <br /> The funding available to assist citizens in need would increase by $150. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> Finance will make the appropriate budget adjustments <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Dr. Whitaker, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING WITH APPRECIATION A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT <br />OF $150 FROM DRIFTERS INC. AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS TO THE FY <br />2021 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES TO <br />SUPPORT OPERATIONS OF THE SERVICES INTAKE UNIT.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Battle, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Whitaker, Woodard, Glover <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />21 - 154 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting $30,000 from the Virginia Department <br />of Emergency Management and appropriating said amount in the FY 2021 Grants <br />Fund for use by the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) has allocated the <br />City of Portsmouth $30,000 in 2021 (FY21) for emergency responses provided by the <br />Southside Regional Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team\\SRHMR. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
