July 16, 2020 <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The Finance Department will make the necessary budgetary adjustments. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Clark, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING VIRGINIA BUILDING CODE ACADEMY GRANT <br />FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,000 FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND <br />COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY <br />2021 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PERMITS AND <br />INSPECTIONS. ” <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />20 - 176 - Adoption of an ordinance amending Appendix A to the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) to increase court fees allocated to courthouse <br />security from $10.00 to $20.00 for criminal and traffic code convictions. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> Effective July 1, the General Assembly has authorized localities to increase court <br />fees collected in criminal and traffic cases for court security purposes from $10.00 to <br />$20.00. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> The increase in fees collected will help to defray the costs of courthouse security <br />and will be paid only by those defendants who are convicted of criminal or traffic <br />violations. <br /> <br /> <br />Financial impact: <br /> <br /> There is no cost to the City resulting from adoption of this ordinance. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> Appendix A will be updated to reflect the new fees. <br /> <br /> Collection at the new rate will began upon adoption. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Battle, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE AMENDING APPENDIX A TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) TO INCREASE COURT FEES ALLOCATED TO <br />COURTHOUSE SECURITY FROM $10.00 TO $20.00 FOR CRIMINAL AND TRAFFIC <br />CODE CONVICTIONS.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />20 - 177 - Adoption of an ordinance revising the monthly payment schedule for <br />delivery of the City’s local share allocation for the First Quarter of the FY 2021 <br />Portsmouth Public Schools Operating Budget. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The City of Portsmouth approved the FY 2021 budgets for the Portsmouth Public <br />Schools on May 12, 2020. <br /> <br /> As part of this adoption, Council approved an FY 2021 local share contribution of <br />$56,725,696. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
