May 12, 2020

8) Please do not consider the city managers proposal to raise the various taxes, fees,
etc. We in Portsmouth already pay exuberant fees, real estate( not considered
here) tunnel tolls and finally the shutdown due to the Covid-19.
We elected the council, NOT the city manager to make decisions based on such
high amounts to live here. Whether its homeowner like myself, or folks who live in
apartments, or rentals enough is enough!!
Please consider everything when making a decision, as our wallets and
pocketbooks and daily living is at stake.

Mitch Klau
3508 Gentle Rd. Ports Va 23703

9) I have been a resident of Portsmouth my entire life. I am raising my children here
and it is a beautiful city. Increasing taxes, especially now, would only hurt the
citizens. I would ask that you please re consider. Many people do not have an
income right now. They can not pay their bills as it is and with a tax increase on
things like water and food, is a slap in the face. Please reconsider this terrible idea.
Elizabeth Logan
6 Algonquin St 23707

10) With all due respect, I am voicing my concern on the recent proposals of tax
increase here in our area. For the past few years, I must say I appreciate that real
estate taxes have remained steady however this recent increase of water and
sewage are unnecessary!! We have a pond in our community where the sprinkler
system has been inoperable for close to five months!!!! I know that's a little off
subject but I'm sure you understand my point. Once again the hard work of some
in this city is being taken for granted to carry the load for others!! We deserve far
better!!!!

Terrence Alston, BS, CSAC, QMHP
5936 Hampshire Green

11) Voicemail
"Hello. My name is Tracy, and I am Coleen, regarding the proposal to increase the
city mele tax by one full percentage point, as well as some other increase that
they're talking about, that I read about today. In the pilot, increases that include to
our water rate, sewer rate, and storm water, utility C, I am adamantly opposed to
these increases especially during the time of the coronavirus and pandemic. We
need help. And these measures hurt the community. My suggestion would be to
temporarily cut the salary of the members of City Council and donate those cuts
towards the city budget. So, that's my recommendation. But please don't put any
additional tax burdens on us at this time. So many people being laid off, so many
people, you know, losing their jobs, are getting their hours cut. We just can't afford
this burden at this time. Thank you."

12) Voicemail
"William Skeeter: 31 41 River Age Drive. Uh, just calling two. Telephone number
484-3496. So Scowling, I'm wondering why the poor city in the area has to be the
highest tech city it is no wonder that the population is doodling .It's just ridiculous
that we have to keep raising our taxes. We need to make some cuts somewhere,
I don't know where. But, you're taxing people at the pharma retired senior citizen
with ,uh, no other resources and what I'm living on an, You're killing me. Thanks."
