May 23, 2000 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, there .were present: *Mayor James W. Holley Ill, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., J..~:Thomas Benn Ill, *William E. Moodyi Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., City Manager Ronald W. Massie, Deputy City At!omey George M. Willson. ~ 00 - 115 - The folloWing call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Manager's Conference. Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2000,. for the.purpose of a Public Work SessiOn. In addition,-you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 00 - 116 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Parking Study 2..Highland Biltmore Drainage Improvements 3. South Waterfront'Development Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or consider the following: ' The investing of public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, as permitted under Subsection A.4; and The acquisition or sale of realty for a public purpose, as permitted under Subsection A.3. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, pursuant to Section 2.1- 344.1 of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Member's knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in th9 meeting by the City Council.
