The grant is a total reimbursement grant <br />based on the number of meals served. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The full implementation of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Kids <br />Meals Program throughout the 2017-2018 school year. <br /> <br />1. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke in opposition to this item. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Clark, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A KIDS MEALS PROGRAM GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$628,207.20 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE CHILD AND ADULT <br />CARE FOOD PROGRAM ADMINISTERED THROUGH THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT <br />OF HEALTH AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2018 GRANTS FUND <br />FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND LEISURE <br />SERVICES TO PROVIDE MEALS AND SNACKS AUTHORIZED UNDER THE KIDS <br />MEALS PROGRAM.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Clark, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Smith, Whitaker, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />18 - 15 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting with appreciation a donation of $100 <br />from the Tidewater Baptist Women Missionary and Educational Convention and <br />appropriating said funds to the FY 2018 Grants Fund for use by the Department of <br />Social Services to support operations of the Social Services Intake Unit. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Department of Social Services (DSS) Intake Unit provides assistance to <br />eligible citizens for food, shelter and utilities, through various state and federally funded <br />programs. The DSS also receives community support via donations and community <br /> <br />partnerships. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> There are citizens of Portsmouth who are in need of support from the Department <br />of Social Services (DSS); however some do not meet program eligibility requirements. <br />These individuals may be serviced through the DSS food pantry or given referrals to other <br /> <br />community support programs. <br /> <br /> The Tidewater Baptist Women Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc. has <br />provided DSS with a check in the amount of $100.00, with a request that the funds be <br />utilized for the purposes of supporting the elderly during the holidays. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br /> <br /> The funding available to assist citizens in need would increase by $100.00. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> Finance will make the appropriate budget adjustments <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
