September 12, 2017 <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Clark, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br />GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $57,992 FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF <br />EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY <br />2018 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND <br />EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT EQUIPMENT, <br />SUPPLIES, AND TRAINING.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Clark, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />17 - 392 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting Radiological Emergency <br />Preparedness Program funding in the amount of $3,500 from the Virginia <br />Department of Emergency Management and appropriating said amount in the FY <br />2018 Grants Fund for use by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency <br />Services. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Virginia Department of Emergency Management recognized the critical role <br />of emergency management at the local level. Strong local emergency management <br />programs keep the Commonwealth safer, and allow all of us to respond and recover <br />effectively and efficiently when an emergency or disaster occurs. <br /> <br /> The purpose of the Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program is to support <br />the activities of local emergency management agencies in establishing, maintaining and <br />operating such emergency plans, programs and capabilities to deal with nuclear <br />accidents as are required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal <br />Emergency Management Agency with respect to nuclear power stations. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> This funding will be used to calibrate and make ready the Radiological detection <br />equipment on the HAZMAT units. <br /> <br />Financial impact: <br /> <br /> This program does not require a local cash match and\\or In-Kind services. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br /> <br /> Adoption of the ordinance. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> The Finance Department will make the necessary budgetary adjustments. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS <br />PROGRAM FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $700 FROM THE VIRGINIA <br />DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND APPROPRIATING SAID <br />AMOUNT IN THE FY 2018 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF <br />FIRE, RESCUE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Clark, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />17 - 393 - Adoption of an ordinance confirming a transfer of $266,604 from the Non- <br />Departmental, Salary – Employee Bonus line item of the FY 2017 General Fund <br />budget to the Public Safety category of the FY 2017 General Fund budget to fund <br />overtime and benefits costs of the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency <br />Services incurred during FY 2017. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
