The
Food Pantry Program is a community-based program that collects and stores food and
household products for free distribution to those in need. The Food Pantry Program
was primarily supported through partnership with the Portsmouth Area Resources
Coalition (PARC) and other community stakeholders.

Discussion:

PARC informed PDSS that its organization will no longer be able to support the
Food Pantry Program.

On April 19, 2017, Mr. Benjamin Hendrick contacted PDSS to make a donation
for the Food Pantry Program. His contributions of $900, made in three increments of
$300, will replenish needed food pantry items. PDSS received the first installment check
th
on April 19.

PDSS is currently in the process of applying to be a partner agency with the Food
Bank of South Eastern Virginia in order to continue to provide this service.

Financial Impact:

The funding available for operation of the Food Pantry Program is increased by
$900.

Recommended Action:

Adoption of the ordinance.

Next Steps Following Council Action:

Finance will make the appropriate budget adjustments.
