January 10, 2017 <br /> <br /> 1. That it will continue to deliberate during the 2017 Virginia General Assembly <br />session on the appropriateness of efforts to repeal Chapter 11 of the Portsmouth City <br />Charter and eliminate the Civil Service Commission. <br /> <br /> 2. That it hereby requests the General Assembly to carry over Senate Bill 842, <br />and any similar bill which may be or have been filed, to the 2018 Virginia General <br />Assembly session. <br /> <br /> 3. That it expresses its appreciation to the Portsmouth legislative delegation <br />for the prompt filing of legislation in accordance with Council’s prior Resolutions, but now <br />requests that the members of the delegation take such actions as are necessary or <br />desirable to carry over the filed legislation, or any legislation regarding the Charter <br />amendment, until 2018. <br /> <br /> 4. That the City Manager is directed to provide a copy of this Resolution to <br />each member of the City’s General Assembly delegation. <br /> <br /> 5. That the City Manager and/or her designees are authorized and directed to <br />provide necessary input and clarification during the 2017 Virginia General Assembly <br />session and to carry out other activities as are needed in furtherance of the purpose of <br />this Resolution.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Clark, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: Whitaker <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />17 - 31 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to adopt the 2017 City Council <br />Liaisons to Various Boards, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />2017 City Council Liaisons to Various Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />Mayor John L.
