June 14, 2016 <br /> <br />History Commission <br /> <br />Maureen Mizelle to be reappointed for a term ending June 30, 2019. <br /> <br />John Robins, Jr. to be reappointed for a term ending June 30, 2019. <br /> <br />Social Services Advisory Commission <br /> <br />Robert Jones to be appointed to fill a term ending June 30, 2020, replacing Erica Carr. <br /> <br />Wetlands Board <br /> <br />Lena Simmons to be reappointed for a term ending May 31, 2021. <br /> <br />Herman Weaver to be reappointed for a term ending May 31, 2021. <br /> <br />Motion by Dr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Cherry, to close nominations and <br />the above nomination was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />16 - 187 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an <br />agreement with the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) for the use and <br />support of a regional solid waste disposal system, conditioned upon SPSA and <br />the City entering into a Collaborative Development Agreement with regard to the <br />development of a new Portsmouth Transfer Station and subject to a sufficient <br />number of member localities entering into an identical Use and Support <br />Agreement to effect the selected waste disposal method at an initial tipping fee <br />cost of less than $65 per ton for the disposal of municipal solid waste. Deferred <br />from the May 10, 2016 City Council meeting. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Dr. Edmonds, to defer this item to the <br />June 28, 2016 City Council meeting, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright spoke in the following events: <br /> <br /> <br /> Offered congratulations to all high school graduates. <br /> <br /> Kappa Alpha Psi scholarship event held at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas informed citizens and City Council of the following events: <br /> <br /> <br /> Stand with Orlando vigil, noon, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the flag pole at <br />High Street Landing. <br /> <br /> Sunset Thursday at Portside, 6:30-8:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Historic initiative placing of historic squares Friday, June 17, 2016, 10:00 a.m., at <br />the northwest cornerstone of the Portsmouth Museum and at the Sports Hall of <br />Fame at 11:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> Race to Cock Island, Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18, 2016. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cherry asked that Bob Baldwin, Planning Director and City Attorney Ashby come <br /> <br />back to City Council with a briefing on proffers. <br /> <br /> <br />16 - 188 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
