April 12, 2016 <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />16 - 122 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />16 - 123 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright spoke in the following: <br /> <br /> <br />-Apologized for late start of meeting. <br /> <br />-William Wilson named Senior Volunteer of the Year by Prime Plus and the Senior <br />Retirement Organization. <br /> <br />-Pin Wheels for National Child Abuse Prevention Month. <br /> <br />-State of the City Address, Wednesday, April 13, 2016, noon at the Renaissance <br />Hotel. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas spoke in the following events: <br /> <br /> <br />-Sun glasses being given away at the Sunset Thursday events. <br /> <br />-Thanked 911 Dispatchers and recognized National Public Safety Communication <br />Week. <br />th <br /> <br />-64 Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT), April 14-16, 2016 at <br />Churchland High School. <br /> <br />-Great American Clean Up and Paint Your Heart Out, Saturday, April 16, 2016. <br /> <br />-Mini Farmers Market. <br />th <br /> <br />-8 Annual Cause for the Paws. <br /> <br />-Coffee with a Cop starting May 19th, 8-10 a.m. at the Coffee Shop. <br /> <br />16 - 124 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked City Manager Patton to provide an update on the Virginia <br /> <br />Retirement System (VRS) investigation regarding a personnel issue of a former <br />employee. <br /> <br /> <br />-City Manager Patton informed citizens and City Council that there were continued <br />communications with VRS regarding a personnel issue of a former employee <br />regarding a possible liability of $480,882.11. She also indicated that the amount <br />could possibly change and that the change would most likely be an increase. <br /> <br />16 - 125 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Barry Randall, 500 Oak Street, voiced his concern with a statement made by the <br />Mayor in an article regarding the auditor. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas raised a point of order regarding personal attacks being made by <br /> <br />the speaker towards the auditor. <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright asked that the speaker continue with his remarks but leave out the <br /> <br />personal statements regarding the auditor. <br /> <br />2. Reynold Jordan, 4008 Estates Lane, voiced his concern with the Department of <br />Social Services. <br /> <br />3. Jean Bondy, 13 Atton Parkway, invited City Council to the Annual Spring Fest on <br />May 7 in Afton Square and asked that Wheelabrator continue as the solid waste <br />processor for the City. <br /> <br />4. Deloris Knight, 33 Kennedy Drive, spoke in support of Wheelabrator continuing as <br />the solid waste processor for the City. <br /> <br />5. Maggie Magruder, 111 High Street, spoke in support of Wheelabrator continuing as <br />the solid waste processor for the City. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
