January 12, 2016 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends and states: <br /> <br /> That an ordinance should be adopted to appropriate and authorize expenditure of <br />$18,403 in State Asset Forfeiture funds. <br /> <br /> That providing fair and diligent prosecution is the mission of the Office of the <br />Commonwealth’s Attorney, and this appropriation and its impact will allow staff to <br />continue to adhere to that purpose. <br /> <br /> That this aligns with one of the City’s Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive <br />Government. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> The Commonwealth’s Attorney or her designee will provide asset forfeiture <br /> <br />management and effective oversight of this financial transaction. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Dr. Edmonds, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $18,403 OF ASSET FORFEITURE FUNDING <br />RECEIVED FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA IN THE FY 2015-16 ASSET <br />FORFEITURE FUND FOR THE OFFICE OF THE COMMONWEALTH’S ATTORNEY’S <br />CASE MANAGEMENT PROJECT.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />16 - 12 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />16 - 13 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright spoke in the following community engagement forums: <br /> <br /> <br />-Community Budget Engagement forum dates: <br /> <br />Saturday, January 30 at Woodrow Wilson High School from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 <br />o <br />a.m. <br /> <br />Thursday, February 4 at I. C. Norcom High School from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. <br />o <br /> <br />Saturday, February 6 at Churchland High School from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. <br />o <br /> <br />-Saturday, January 23, top 2 candidates for Fire and Police Chief Community <br />Forum. <br /> <br />-Community Meeting, Tuesday, January 19, 2016, 7:00 p.m., at the Churchland <br />Branch Library. <br /> <br /> <br /> City Manager Patton informed citizens and City Council that the Budget Community <br />Engagement forum would also include the school system. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas spoke on upcoming events for Black History Month. <br /> <br /> <br /> Mr. Moody spoke in the following: <br /> <br /> <br />-Presidential appointment of Kelli Adesina, 1999 graduate of I. C. Norcom High <br />School, as Senior Counsel at the United States Department of Agriculture <br />(USDA). <br /> <br />-Tyrone Hines with Westmoreland Children Youth Associates sponsoring of field <br />trip to Richmond on Saturday, January 18. <br /> <br />-Punitive action taken against him by City Council. <br /> <br /> Dr. Edmonds spoke on Woodrow Wilson High School’s band performance at the <br /> <br />Gator Bowl. <br /> <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas informed citizens that she did not take part in taking punitive <br /> <br />action against Councilman Moody. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
