October 28, 2014 <br />Financial Impact: <br />• The City does not have to provide any cash or in-kind match. <br />Recommended Action: <br />• Acceptance of the motion. Vision Principles: Change and New Directions and <br />Leading Maritime Center. <br />Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to accept an allocation of <br />dive equipment valued at $3,500 from the Virginia Port Authority to expand the Police <br />Department's capabilities, and was adopted by the following vote: <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright <br />Nays: None <br />- New Business - <br />14 - 418 -Boards and Commissions <br />There were no appointments. <br />14 - 419 -Items Submitted by Council Members <br />- Mayor Wright spoke on the following events: <br />- Thanked Olde Towne Business Association for the Trick or Treat event. <br />- Reading session at the Toddler Time Daycare Center. <br />- National Read for the Record. <br />- Ms. Psimas spoke on the following: <br />- Great Pumpkin Challenge results. <br />- Reminded citizens to go out and vote on November 4, 2014. <br />- Mr. Moody spoke on the following: <br />- Come Home to Cradock event. <br />- Events held by the Waterview and Long Point Civic Leagues. <br />- Grand opening of the new Kroger Marketplace. <br />- Mr. Moody asked that Staff give an update on the fishing/crabbing pier. <br />• Nita Mensia-Joseph, Deputy City Manager, provided an update on the <br />fishing/crabbing pier. <br />14 - 420 -Report on Pending Items <br />• There were no pending items. <br />14 - 421 -Non-Agenda Speakers <br />1. Clyde Toler, 1029 Blair Street, spoke in various issues within the City. <br />2. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke on Principle of Liberty #7. <br />3. Cynthia Lewis, 6414 Covley Lane, Suffolk, spoke in the importance of breast cancer <br />awareness. <br />4. Kintrell Devin, 515 Water Lilly Road, asked that Parkview Elementary School be <br />included in the schools that provide programs for youth in the community. <br />5. Shawn Birden, 1618 Ellington Square, asked that there be better communication <br />with civic leagues regarding The Pines. He also had a concern with the train traffic in <br />the City. <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 9:27 p.m. <br />
