Vision Principle: A Robust Economy for
Working Men and Women.
Background:
• The City, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have reached a tentative agreement to allow
EPA to expand the geography of the landfill component of the Atlantic Wood Industries
(AWI) Superfund Site remediation. The expansion will include 3920 Burton's Point
Road (currently owned by the School Board) and an adjacent strip of land currently
owned by the City (collectively, the "Properties"). As a result, the height of the landfill
will be reduced and the brownfield development opportunities in the area will be
improved.
