September 9, 2014 Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright Nays: None 14 - 334 -Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $286,920 from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and appropriating said funds in the FY 2014-15 Grants Fund for use by the Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services. Vision Principle: Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. Background: • The Virginia Department of Fire Programs has been providing entitlement funds to localities for more than twenty years. • "Aid to Localities" provides Virginia cities, towns and counties with funds to pay for training, construction of training centers, firefighting equipment, and protective clothing. • The funds are derived from one-percent of fire-related insurance coverage and are allocated based on population. Motion by Mr. Meeks, and seconded by Mr. Edmonds, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $286,920 FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FIRE PROGRAMS AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE FY 2014-15 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE, AND EMERGENCY SERVICES." Vision Principles: Quality of Life and Efficient Responsive Government. Background: • The Portsmouth Police Department has been awarded grant funding in the amount of $3,479 from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through the Virginia Highway Safety Office (VHSO). • Since estimated revenue in the FY 2014-2015 Grants Fund will increase by $3,479, that amount will be appropriated in the FY 2014-2015 Grants Fund.
