<br />PORTION OF THE FY 2013-14 EDUCATION FUND THE SUM OF $6,000 IN
<br />SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) TEACHER
<br />RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION INCENTIVE AWARDS GRANT FUNDS
<br />RECEIVED FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA."

<br />14 - 162 -Adoption of an ordinance to amend Chapter 10 of the Code of the City
<br />of Portsmouth, Virginia (2006) by amending Sections 10-93, 10-94, 10-96 through
<br />10-99, 10-101, 10-104 through 10-107, 10-109, 10-115, 10-117, 10-118, and 10-120
<br />thereof pertaining to the voting places for Precincts 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 21, 22-
<br />24, 26, 32, 34, 35, and 37. Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government.
<br />Background:
<br />• The City Code establishes the boundaries of each voting precinct and the
<br />location of each voting place in Chapter 10.
<br />• While changes to voting precincts have been reflected in regular code
<br />amendments, changes regarding voting places have not.
<br />Discussion:
<br />• City Registrar Deloris Overton Short has requested that the City Code be
<br />amended to reflect accurate facility names and addresses for city voting places.
<br />• The proposed ordinance will update the City Code regarding voting locations for
<br />Precincts No. 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 21-24, 26, 32, 34, 35, and 37.

<br />Background:
<br />• In 2009, the City applied to the United States Department of Housing and Urban
<br />Development (HUD) for funding to redevelop blighted properties in Cradock under the
<br />Community Development Block Grant -Recovery (CDBG-R) program.
