December 17, 2013 <br />At a Special Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, there <br />were present: <br />Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Paige D. Cherry, William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene <br />W. Randall, Elizabeth M. Psimas, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., Danny W. Meeks, City <br />Manager John L. Rowe, Jr., City Attorney George M. Willson. <br />Councilman Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr. opened the meeting with prayer, which was <br />followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Mayor Wright called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. <br />- Public Hearing - <br />13-509 Public hearing to obtain public comment on the advisability of <br />legalizing casino gaming in the Hampton Roads Region. <br />1. Stephen Heretick, 715 Loudoun Avenue, spoke in support of this item. <br />2. Senator Willard Moody, 500 Crawford Street, spoke in support of this item. <br />3. Senator L. Louise Lucas, P. O. Box 700, spoke in support of this item. <br />4. Doug Smith, 1001 Baldwin Avenue, Norfolk, spoke in support of this item. <br />5. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, spoke in opposition to this item. <br />6. Betty Ashbury, 5218 Cobblehill Road, spoke in support of this item. <br />7. Pat Simon, 801 Mimosa Road, spoke in opposition to this item. <br />8. Warren Kauffman, 111 High Street, spoke in opposition to this item. <br />9. Christina Carlton, 88 Aylwin Road, spoke on the pros and cons of having casino <br />gaming in the City. <br />- Councilman Meeks asked City Attorney George Willson what Council would need to <br />do to cast a vote on the resolution tonight. <br />
