October 8, 2013 <br />WHEREAS, given the immediate and severe revenue losses suffered by <br />downtown businesses in Portsmouth, time is of the essence. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia that it hereby requests the Governor and the Secretary of <br />Transportation to take all steps necessary to expeditiously devise and implement a <br />plan that would allow two-way traffic in the eastbound tube during the weekend <br />closures for rehabilitation work." <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright <br />Nays: None <br />• Ms. Psimas spoke on the following events: <br />• 100t" Birthday Celebration of I. C. Norcom High School. <br />• Thursday, October 10 Coffee Talk with the City Manager. <br />• Chesapeake Bay Police Motorcycle Rodeo, Saturday, October 12 at Bayside <br />Harley Davidson. <br />• Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, Saturday, October 19. <br />• Fall Festival in Churchland at the Churchland Shopping Center, Saturday, <br />October 19 from 10 am - 4 pm. <br />• Olde Towne Ghost Walk, Friday, October 25. <br />• Pumpkin Lighting Contest at the museum at Court and High Streets on Friday, <br />October 25. <br />• Trick or Treat Event, Saturday, October 26 from 6pm - 8pm on High Street. <br />- Mayor Wright thanked the Police Department, Civic Leagues and citizens for an <br />outstanding National Night Out Year. <br />13 - 425 -Report on Pending Items <br />There were no pending items. <br />13 - 426 -Non-Agenda Speakers <br />1. Linda Ridenour, 313 Tarreyton Lane, informed Council and citizens of the work <br />being done at the Oasis Community Job Training Center. <br />2. Terry Danaher, 413 Dinwiddie Street, informed City Council and citizens of the <br />Transportation Forum sponsored by the LefCoe Alumni Association on October 16 <br />at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. She also encouraged citizens to come to the <br />Farmer's Market. <br />3. Roderick Madison, 200 High Street, invited City Council and citizens to the LefCoe <br />Alumni Association Transportation Forum, October 16, 7 pm at the Virginia Sports <br />Hall of Fame. <br />4. Jayden Barnes, 218 Boat Street, spoke in support of a recreation center in the <br />Truxton neighborhood. <br />5. Robin Duff, 951 Randolph Street, spoke in support of a recreation center in the <br />Truxton neighborhood. <br />6. Anthony Gallop, 1402 Newby Road, spoke in support of a recreation center in the <br />Truxton neighborhood. <br />7. Delores Knight, 33 Kennedy Drive, spoke on photos that were taken of an event held <br />by a member of City Council. <br />8. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, asked that City Council include in the <br />Legislative Package a request that would allow the School Board to have its own <br />revenue source. <br />9. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, spoke on Principle of Liberty #10. <br />
