Vision Principles: A Robust Economy for Working <br />Men and Women and Efficient Responsive Government. <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br />"ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 11-5(e) AND APPENDIX A OF THE CODE OF <br />THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) AND TO REPEAL SECTION 11-6(D) <br />OF SAID CODE TO ESTABLISH A NEW FEE STRUCTURE FOR THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PROGRAM." <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright <br />Nays: None <br />13 - 401 -Adoption of an ordinance accepting grant funding in the amount of <br />$81,116 from the U.S. Department of Justice-Bureau of Justice Assistance and <br />appropriating said funds in the FY 2013-14 Grants Fund to be employed by the <br />Portsmouth Police Department funds for technology initiatives, equipment, and <br />continued funding support for the Drug Court Program. Vision Principles: <br />Change and New Directions, Quality of Life, and Efficient and Responsive <br />Government. <br />Background: <br />• The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $81,116.00 <br />from the Department of Justice -Bureau of Justice Assistance to provide funds for <br />equipment along with continued funding to support the Drug Court Program. <br />Discussion: <br />• The FY 2013 Justice Assistance Grant will be used to provide funding for <br />equipment, technology initiatives that will improve the Portsmouth Police Department's <br />ability to respond to incidents within the City. Additionally funds will be used to support <br />the Drug Court programs within the Circuit Court. <br />Financial Impact: <br />• The grant award amount is $81,116 of Department of Justice funds for the <br />Portsmouth Police Department. <br />• The City does not have to provide any match monies and there is no obligation <br />from the City once the grant has ended. <br />Staff Recommends: <br />• Adoption of an Ordinance to appropriate the $81,116 from the Department of <br />Justice grant to provide the Portsmouth Police Department funds for technology, <br />equipment along with continued funding to support Drug Court Program.
