<br />At a Regular Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, there were
<br />present:
<br />Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Paige D. Cherry, William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene
<br />W. Randall, Elizabeth M. Psimas, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., Danny W. Meeks, City
<br />Manager John L. Rowe, Jr., City Attorney George M. Willson.
<br />Councilman Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., opened the meeting with prayer, which was
<br />followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
<br />Mayor Wright called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance.
<br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Edmonds, to approve the minutes of
<br />a Called Meeting of June 24, 2013, of a Called Meeting of June 25, 2013, and of a
<br />Regular Meeting of June 25, 2013, and was adopted by the following vote:
<br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright
<br />Nays: None
<br />- Public Hearing -
<br />13 - 288 -Public hearing on use permit applications:
<br />(a) UP-13-06 MT. HERMON -Interstate Sign Company requests a use permit to
<br />replace the existing pylon and price sign with new signs at
<br />an unmanned fueling station at 2401 Turnpike Road. The
<br />property is owned by Quarles Petroleum, is zoned IN, Industrial.
<br />The Comprehensive Plan's Generalized Future Land Use Map
<br />recommends this site as part of a Mixed Use Corridor. Vision
<br />Principle: A Robust Economy for Working Men and Women.
<br />There were no speakers.
<br />Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to concur with the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission that UP-13-06 be approved, and was
<br />adopted by the following vote:
<br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright
<br />Nays: None
<br />(b) UP-13-07 TRUXTUN - Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church requests a use
<br />permit to operate a Day Care Center Monday through Friday in the
<br />church facilities located at 3310 Deep Creek Blvd and 17
<br />through 27 Manly St. The Comprehensive Plan's Generalized
<br />Future Land Use Map recommends this site for Institutional uses.
<br />Vision Principle: A Robust Economy for Working Men and Women.
<br />There were no speakers.
<br />Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to concur with the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission that UP-13-07 be approved with
<br />conditions, and was adopted by the following vote:
<br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright
<br />Nays: None
<br />- City Manager's Report -
<br />13 - 289 -Adoption of a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Deed
<br />of Vacation and Release of a Drainage Easement at 300 Wythe Street. Vision
<br />Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government.
