335 <br /> <br />May 26, 1987 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the use of nondrinking quality well water would reduc, <br /> ~he amount of water to be withdrawn from Portsmouth's water treatmer <br /> ~stem thereby enhancing the reserve capacity of the system for fu- <br /> ture growth of the City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the State Water Control Board be, and <br />hereby is, requested to approve the application of Cogentrix, Inc., <br />for a permit to drill two deep wells to be used in connection with <br />its cogeneration plant on property in Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby <br />is, directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the State Wate: <br />Control Board." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holle' <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-243 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />a resolution endorsing the Clean Community Program's application to <br />the Virginia Division of Litter Control. <br /> <br /> "Each year the City of Portsmouth is eligible to receive an <br />allocation of state funds from the Virginia Division of Litter <br />Control. These funds are used to support the Clean Community Pro- <br />gram, provide assistance with litter control projects, purchase <br />litter receptacles., and augment the community awareness and educa- <br />tion program. The Portsmouth Beautification and Clean Community <br />Commission has been very active and successful in promoting these <br />activities in the City. <br /> <br /> As part of the application process, the Division Of Litter <br />Control requires that the program be officially endorsed by the <br />local governing body prior to its submission. I request permission <br />to submit the application to continue Portsmouth's Clean Community <br />Program and have enclosed a resolution of support for your endorse- <br />ment.
