June 9, 1987 87=257 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of an ordinance to amend Chapter 21 of the City Code pertaining to mis. cell~neous offenses, resulting from change in the State Code made b the General Assembly. "A~tach~d are recommended changes to the City Code pertaining to miscellaneous offenses and motor vehicles and traffic. These chan~es are needed to reflect changes in the State Code made by the General Assembly. I, therefore, recommend adoption of these ordinances.~' On motion of Mr. Gray and secon~ded by Mr. Barnes, the followin ordinance was adopted on first and final reading, and by the fellow lng vote: "AN ORDINANCE TO A~[END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY A~ENDING SECTIONS 21-19, 21-21, 21-38, 21740, 21-115, 21-125, AND 2!-14~ (b) AND BY ENACTING SECTION 21-141.1 OF CHAPTER 2~ THEREOF, PERTAINING TO MISCELLANEOUS OFFENSES." "The t987 General Assembly amended those ~ortions of the State Code pertaining to the establishment and use o~ auxiliary police. The legislation established two grades of auxiliary as those who have met the training requirements of the Department of Criminal Justice Services and those who have nor. The Chief off Police may call out the former, while only the local governing body, or its designee, may call out the latter during times of public emergency. I recommend adoption of the ordinance to amend the City Code ~n order to establish the distinction auxiliary police in compliance with State law."
