August 28, 2012 <br />"ORDINANCE ACCEPTING PROGRAM INCOME IN THE AMOUNT OF $640,721.22 <br />FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION PROGRAM AND APPROPRIATING <br />SAID AMOUNT IN THE FY 2012-13 COMMUNITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT <br />PROGRAM." <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright <br />Nays: None <br />- New Business - <br />12 - 346 -Boards and Commissions <br />There were no appointments. <br />12 - 347 -Items Submitted by Council Members <br />- Mayor Wright spoke on the following events: <br />- Thanked churches, Greek organizations and non-profits for providing school <br />supplies to children going back to school <br />- Youth Conference and Back to School event organized by the youth at New <br />Bethel Baptist Church <br />- 50t" Anniversary of the Class of 1962 at I. C. Norcom High School <br />- Mr. Moody voiced his concern with the mosquito problem in the City. He also asked <br />for and received consensus from City Council to have Staff report back at the next <br />Public Work Session what's being done to alleviate the mosquito problem. <br />- Vice Mayor Whitehurst asked that the City Manager come back with a plan to <br />resurface tennis courts and to promote other athletic activities throughout the City. <br />12 - 348 -Report on Pending Items <br />• Bernadette Hogge, Ombudsman, gave an update on items of concern presented by <br />citizens at the August 14, 2012 City Council Meeting. <br />12 - 349 -Non-Agenda Speakers <br />1. Joe Wright, 1451 Welcome Road, voiced his concern with 3 and 4 year olds being <br />charged to play at the Splash Park. <br />2. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, voiced his concern with what he believes is <br />fiscal impropriety by the School Board. <br />3. Lee Cherry, 1108 Melvin Drive, voiced his concern with the Sheriff Deputy's <br />decrease in morale after learning of a proposal to move the jail. <br />4. Tony Goodwin, 38 Linden Avenue, voiced his opposition to moving prisoners to the <br />Regional Jail. <br />5. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, gave an outline of what she believes is needed <br />to provide good leadership. <br />6. Coleman Young, 602 North Street, invited City Council and citizens to participate in <br />the "No Tolls Poker Run" to raise funds for the lawsuit to eliminate the tolls. <br />7. Joey Thorpe, 1625 Ward Terrace, asked that City Council pass legislation banning <br />the chaining of dogs. <br />8. Sarah Preston, 209 Sandpiper Drive, asked that City Council pass legislation <br />banning the chaining of dogs. <br />9. Michelle Godinez, 3409 Dartmouth Street, asked that City Council pass legislation <br />banning the chaining of dogs. <br />
