July 28, 1987 <br /> <br />Item'Removed from the Consent_Agenda was presented. <br /> <br /> 87-299 - Ordinance to appropriate $415,000 for the City's <br />share of the portion of the Western Freeway Project designated <br />as the TownePoint Road Project, approved on first reading at the <br />regular meeting of July 14, 1987. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Webb, that the matter <br />be deferred to the meeting of August 11~ 1987, as requested, and <br />was adopted by unanimous vo~e. <br /> <br />Other Item Under Unfinished Business <br /> <br />87-297 Rezoning Application: <br /> <br />(c) Z 87-10 <br /> <br />OLDE TOWNE NEIGHBORHOOD: Rezoning applicati <br />of Leslie D. Bell, Jr., and Naomi W. Thomas <br />owners, to rezone proper~y at the northwest <br />corner of London Boulevard and Dinwiddie <br />Street; from Historic Limited Office HLO to <br />Historic Limited Business HLB-K Conditional <br />approved on first reading at the regular <br />meeting of July 14, 1987. <br /> <br /> Leslie D. Bell, Jr., 610 Chandler Harper Drive, applicant, <br />was available to answer questions. <br /> <br /> Robert A. Gross, 500 London Blvd., spoke in support of the <br />application. <br /> <br /> Gail L. Tiesenga, 375 Middle Street, spoke in opposition of <br />the application. <br /> <br /> Doris Leitner, 215 Glasgow Street, spoke in opposition of <br />the application and presented the following letter: <br /> <br />"The Executive Committee of London House, Inc., has voted <br />to oppose the re,zoning request for the property at $00 <br />London Boulevard, presently occupied by the Olde Pantry, <br />Ltd. The Committee feels that the proposal presented by <br />the Olde Towne Pantry, Ltd, is not objectionable in itself. <br />However, the Committee believes that the long-range effects <br />of such a zoning change would be detrimental to Olde Towne <br />in general, and to the 500 block of London Boulevard in <br />particular. <br /> <br /> Unless and until Council can assure the Executive Committee <br /> that there will be not other use of the property other <br /> than residential or the present Olde Towne Pantry, Ltd., <br /> the Committee respectfully requested that Council deny' <br /> the requested zoning change. Signed by Mary M. Johnson, <br /> President, Board of Directors." <br />Motion of Mr. Simpson to adopt, died due to the lack of a second. <br />Motion of Mr,~Barnes seconded by Mr..Gray, that Z 87-10 to <br />rezone property at the northwest corner of London Boulevard and <br />Dinwiddie Street, from Historic Limited Office HLO to Historic <br />Limited Business HLB-K Conditional, ~idbni~"~d~ado~{B~ ! <br />by the following vote: ' <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Gray, Lucas, Webb <br /> Nays: Corprew, Simpson, Holley <br /> <br />i -~t~87-2~8 - Discussion of request made by residents <br />Biltmore to purchase approximately 2.3 acres~ more or <br />real <br /> <br /> of Highland <br /> less; of <br />estate to be used for public purposes in that area. <br /> <br /> <br />
