Wallace, 957-C Suburban Parkway, spoke con- <br />cerning ~the~recall of the Mayor. <br /> <br /> 87-422 - James D. Lassiter, 508 Powhatan Avenue, spoke against <br />the sale of beer at the concession stand at City Park. <br /> <br />The matter was referred to the City Manager and a report be fu~ <br /> <br /> 87-423 - Councilman Barnes presented the following petition: <br /> <br /> "We, the undersigned citizens of Shea Terrace, West Park View, <br />and other areas are writing you in regard to our Leckie Street <br />Bridge. <br /> <br /> We need this bridge in many way} It helps residents on the <br />west side of the bridge to have easier, safer, and quicker access tc <br />both Portsmouth General and Naval Hospitals, Crawford Street banking <br /> ection, and downtown Shopping. Residents on the east side need it <br /> the same access to Shea Terrace, School, Flagship Restaurant, ar <br />Port Norfolk. Our Senior citizens and others especially liked not <br />having to get out in the heavier London Boulevard traffic, and both <br />sides need it for~quent visiting of friends and relatives. The <br /> use of this bridge has made it very valuable to us and we <br />[er it part of the character of our neighborhoods. It was al= <br />ways such a joy to drive across and enjoy the beauty of the water <br />and the birds. It truly became part of our lives and we miss it. <br />We pay high taxes and believe we should be considered in this matte: <br /> <br /> We appreciate so much anything you can do to save our bridge. <br />We want it to be restored or rebuilt for the use of all Portsmouth <br />people who have a need to use it. Schnur, Naval Hospital, 106 Constitutic <br />Avenue." <br /> <br /> Vice Ma~or Webb chaired the meeting for the following matter. <br /> <br /> 87-433 - Hotion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Simpson, to <br />grant approval of travel expenses for Mayor Holley attending meeting <br />of Governor's Committee on Efficiency, and was adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br /> 87-434 - Motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mrs.~iWebb, to <br />grant approval of travel expenses for Councilman Barnes attending <br />meeting of VML Legislative meeting and VML Annexation meeting, <br />iand was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 87-435 - Motion of Mrs. Webb and seconded by Mr. Gray, to ~o <br />in~o executive session in accordance with Section 2.1-344 of the <br />Code of Virginia to discuss the following: <br /> <br /> 1. The condition, acquisition and use of real property for <br />~ublic purposes as permitted under subsection (a) (2). <br /> <br /> On motion was adopted by unanimous vote.
