Enforcement sessions will be conducted weekly during those hours in which the accident rate is at its peak. Officer visibility will help to deter traffic violators and subsequently impact the-incidence'of accidents. The grant award of $22,000 in federal funds-represents 50%'of-the project costs and the-~required local match~of~$22~000 witl be provided through in-kind costs for equipment' and personnel. Third, the Public Awareness/Education~Program will enhance the City's traffic safety program through preventing activities. Safety checks will be used~to make citizens aware of new seat belt la~s,.traffic laws and vehicle equipment requirementsl A variety Of educational literature and video tapes will be distributed and used at'civic meetings.
