December-8~ 1987 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2.09 (c) of the Charter of <br />the City of POrtsmouth, the City may convey real property to <br />the Commonwealth of Virginia or political subdivision thereof <br />without advertisement and receipt of ~ids; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission is <br />a political subdivisi6n of the ConLmonweal'th of Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ th~e~ City Council de~ms it to be~ in 'the b~es~t' <br />interest of~the City ~to convey said property t'o?~it~e~Ror~c~mouth <br />Port and~In~d~t~ial Commission 'for the purpo-se <br />development. <br /> <br /> NOW, T~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virg'in-ia, that the City Manage.r~be; and~.he <br />hereby ~s, ~a~thoriZed to cenve~ the ~erei~after-descri~ed real <br />property located on the north side of Meander Road to the <br />Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission; to-wit: <br /> <br /> All that certain piece or parcel of land, situate, <br /> lying and being in the City of Portsmoutk~ Vi~gi~ni~./ <br /> bounded and described as follows.: b~inning at a point on <br /> the western boundary of Chautauqua Avenue said point being <br /> the intersection of the northern~boundary of ~1o~ 1918 as <br /> shown on the plat of the Port Norfolk Land Company <br /> recorded .in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of the <br /> City of Chesapeake, Virginia, in Map Book 2, pages 90 and <br /> 91, and the western boundary of Chautauqua A~enue; thence <br /> · n a westerly direction 320' to a point, o~the center line <br /> of ~the former Maryland Av~nu~'Which~was cl~e~ by an <br /> ordinance adopted by the C~unc~ of the City-o~!Portsmouth <br /> in 1979 (S-79-13); thence ~n a southerly direction along <br /> the center line of said former Maryland Avenue 15' to the <br /> northern boundary of Meander Road; thence~along the~ <br /> northern boundary of Meander Road to a point ~at which %he <br /> said northern boundary of Meander Road intersects the <br /> southern boundary of lot 1941 as shown 0n the~for~said <br /> plat of the Port Norfolk Land Company; thence easterly <br /> along the southern boundary of said lot 194~1 ~72.'4~.~,to the <br /> southern boundary of lot 1918 as shown on the aforesaid <br /> plat of the Port Norfolk Land Company; thence continuing <br /> along~ the southern boundary~of~lot 1918 a distance of 151' <br /> to the point of beginning on~.the western b~und&~y~of <br /> Chautauqua Avenue. Said parcel containing 14,593 square <br /> feet. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager .be, and he <br />hereby is, a~uthorized to sign such deeds and other documents as <br />may be necessary to carry out the intent of this resolution." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, LuCas, Simpson, Webb~, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 87-532 - Letter from the City Manager recommending <br />adoption of a motion to transfer $31,000 from the Grants <br />Contingency Account for the Emergency Shelter Grant Program~to <br />assist with homeless shelters. <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Housing <br />& Urban Development has awarded Portsmouth $28,000 through~the <br />emergency Shelter Grant Program. The funds are targeted to <br />assist Portsmouth's homeless shelters in providing much needed <br /> <br /> <br />
