538 <br /> <br />December 8, 1987 <br /> <br /> As you may recall, a similar agreement with Chesapeake, <br />Norfolk and Virginia Beach was recently approved. <br /> <br /> I recomme~nd adoption of the resolution au~thori.zi.~g :this <br />Mutual Ai'd Agreement with the City of Suffol-k." <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mrs. Webb, the <br />following re~olution-was adopted, and.~by the f~oIIowing~ vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AU, THORIZING THE CITY ~MANAGER~TO ENTER ~tNTO ~A <br /> POLICE MUTUAL- A~I,D AGREEMENT WITI%~THE-.CITY OF-SUFFOLKs; <br /> <br /> W~ereas, .Virginia law authorizes local governments .to <br />enter into reciprocal agreements for mutual laid ~and ~or~ <br />cooperation in the furnishing of police services; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, the cities of Portsmouth and Suffolk have <br />determined that the provision of police mutual.~aid to cross <br />jurisdictional lines will increase their abili~ty to preserve <br />and protect public Safety and welfare~!.and, <br /> <br /> Whereas, it is mutually beneficial to the said <br />jurisdictions to enter into an agreement concer~ing Mutual Aid <br />and cooperation with regards to law enforcement; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, said agreement will also be favorably considered <br />in regard to state certification of the local police <br />departments. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be,-and hereby <br />is, authorized to enter into a Police Mutual Aid Agreement with <br />the City of Suffolk for the purpose of providing assistance in <br />law enforcement matters as made from time to time be <br />requested " ..~ ~ ' : ; <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew,, Gray,'Lucas, Simpson, Webb, Holley <br /> Nays: None . :' " <br /> <br /> 87-530 Letter from the City Manager recommending <br />adoption of a resolution to authorize the issuance of an <br />easement to Virginia Power Company in the PortCentre Commercial <br />Complex~ <br /> <br /> "In order to complete construction and installation of the <br />sewage pump station in the PortCentre Commercial~Complex, it is <br />necessary to ~rant an easement to Virginia~Power Company for~ <br />electric utility service to the station. This easement, twelve <br />feet in width, will be located on the western boundary of the <br />pump station property and will not,affect development of other <br />parcels for private commercial development. <br /> <br /> I recommend adoption oflthe resolution authorizinglthe <br />issuance Of this easement to virginia Power Company,." ~ <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. LucaS andseconded by Mr~ Gray~;~the <br />following resolution was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN AN <br /> EASEMENT AGREEMENT WITH ~VIRGINIA POWER COMPANY..~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City'has constructed a sewage pumping station <br />in the PortCentre Commercial Complex; and ~ -, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, virginia Power Companyhas requested an easement~. <br />12' in width along the western boundary of the pump<:station ~.~ <br />property in order to provide electric utility service for the <br />pump station. <br /> <br /> <br />
