January 26, 1988 <br /> <br /> At a regular meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday, <br />January 26, 1988, there were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Jack P. Barnes, E. G. Corprew, <br />J. Robert Gray, L. Louise Lucas, J. Herbert Simpson, <br />LaMar williams, George L. Hanbury, II, City Manager, <br />Steven Lieberman, City Attorney. <br /> <br />Jr. ~ <br /> <br /> Rev. James H. Hundley, Pastor, Park View United Methodist <br />Church, opened the meeting with prayer, followed by the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />Mayor Webb welcomed all visitors in attendance. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, minutes of a <br />called meeting of January 12, 1988; minutes of a regular meeting <br />of January 12, 1988, to be approved as received and was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 88-28 - Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr~ Barnes, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "WHEREAS, Corinna B. Jeffreys has served the City of <br />Portsmouth in an exemplary manner for twenty years, the last <br />eleven as City Clerk; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during her tenure as City Clerk, the dedication of <br />Corinna B. Jeffreys assured the City Council that services to the <br />citizens of our City were being provided in a prompt and <br />manner; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, her~warmth, concern for others, and love for our <br />City were qualities that she brought to the City Clerk's position <br />and the respect earned from the citizens of this City will serve <br />as a monument to the accomplishments of her tenure. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that it recognizes officially the <br />distinguished and dedicated service rendered by Corinna B. <br />Jeffreys, and by means of this resolution, call attention of our <br />citizens to her many accomplishments. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made a part of <br />the permanent records of the City, and a copy be presented to Ms. <br />Jeffreys, attesting to the appreciation of this Council and the <br />citizens of the City of Portsmouth for her contributions during <br />her years of honorable service." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, WilliamS, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />88-29 - Public Hearing on a group housing project <br /> application: <br /> <br />(a) GHP 87-16 <br /> <br /> PRENTIS PARK NEIGHBORHOOD - Group <br /> housing project application of <br /> James E. Rohr, contract owner, for a <br /> four-unit apartment building at the <br /> southeast corner of Duke Street and <br /> Prentis Avenue. <br /> <br /> James E. Rohr, P. O. Box 8638, Virginia Beach, present to <br />answer questions about the project. <br /> <br /> Rafiq Zaidi, 944-B, Lincoln Street, requested that an inde <br />study on the construction in this area be done. <br /> <br /> <br />
