It is <br />anticipated that Governor Baliles, Jean Kennedy'Smith~ founder <br />of the Very Special Arts and other dignitaries, will attend, <br /> <br /> -The exhibit will feature the works oF seven,to~-thirty <br />artist's from~l'rgl'nla Beac , Alexandria,-Reston, Radfo'rd..~ ' ' <br />Lynchburg, Char-lottesvilte and Richmond, and will create ~n <br />avenue'through which Eheir creativity and taleht .may be ,better <br />appreciated. ~ . _ <br /> <br /> The application is for $13,590 in grant funds which will <br />be matched-throu'gh in-kind contributions and services of the <br />Portsmouth Museums. while the Director of Portsmouth Museums <br />is extreme!y"optimistic of ou'r funding opportunity, ~shoutd the <br />award not be made, the planned exhibit witl~be supported <br /> throu~ ~e Museums' donatio~ account. · <br /> <br /> i recommend approval of the enclosed resolution which will <br /> be forwar.ded to the Virginia 'Commission for the Arts as a part <br /> of this application." <br /> <br /> Motion or'Mr. Lucas and seconded.by-Mr. Gray, the <br /> following resolution was adopted, and by the following vote: <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AN APPLICATION FOR FUNDING TO THE <br />VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,r the Council of the City of Portsmou%h~ ;Virginia <br />has established the Department of Museums to coordina:te the <br />City's cultural activities within the boundaries of the City; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission for the Arts provides <br />funding to enhance local cultural programs; ~and <br /> <br /> ~ ~HEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is eligible:to submit <br />grant applications for funding pursuant to regulations <br />governin~ the administ'ration'and use.of such funds. ~ ~ <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia endorses an application for <br />funding ~o provide support for ,Challenges,~ an exhibit of <br />works by disabled Virginian artists, which will open on October <br />7, 1988 andlwilI coincide with Governor~Gerald L.
