This l~gi~sl~tion prohibits'a~ension plan ~rom <br />ceasing to provide credit to an employee's retirement benefit <br />based o,n age~ Presentl~,~the p~ovisions of the Portsmouth <br />retiremen~ systems do not. al.lOw retirement credit for service <br />beyond age 65. This proposed ordinance will amend our~retireme~t <br />code to comply With the new Federal requirements by removing the <br />age 65 limilt for creditable~se~r.~ice. 'The~Portsmouth Retirement <br />Board unanimously ~reco~mended thins change at its JanUary 1988 <br />board meeting. <br /> <br /> I recommend that the City Council adopt this proposed <br />ordinance." <br /> <br /> ~On motion of Mr~ Simpson and seconded.by Mr. Lucas, the <br /> following ordinance was adopted~ and by the following ~vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH~ <br /> VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 31-148 (b); <br /> ~31'1~5~5 (b); 31-201~ (CREDITABLE SERVICE); 31~262 (b); AND <br /> 31-268 (b); PERTAINING TO THE PORTSMOUTH FIRE AND POLICE <br /> RETIREMENT SYSTEM AND THE PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT <br /> SYSTEM, TO PROVIDE FOR CREDITABLE SERVICE AFTER AGE 65." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes; Corprew, Gray,'Lucas, simpson, Williams,/~ebb <br /> Nays: ,None <br /> <br /> 88-81 , Letter from the City Manager recommending adop <br />a rese~l~ion supporting the gra~t application to the~ ~irginia ~ <br />Commission for the Arts for,Challenges: An Exhibition of Works <br />Virginia Artists with Menta~:.and PhYsical~Disabilities~.. .... ~ <br /> <br /> ~ "T~ie~Vir~inia Commission fo~r the A~ts-is acc~epting <br />applications for Grant Programs for 1988-89.
