March 22~ i98~ "A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE POSITION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, WITH RESPECT TO MARYVIEW HOSPITAL'S CERTIFICATE OF ~UBLIC NEED APPLICATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW HOSPITAL IN NORTHERN SUEFOLK~ WHEREAS, Mar~vview Hospital has submitted a Certificate of Public Need Application to the State Health Commissioner for approval to build a ~ew eighty (80) bed hospital in northern Suffolk at the corner' of College Drive and Towne Point Road; and WHEREAS, the members of the Council of the City of Portsmouth have reviewed information pertaining to this proposal as well as Maryview Hospital's proposal to expand the Hospital f:acility located in central Portsmouth and the impact each of these actions will have on the City; and WHEREAS, Maryview Hospital has provided exemplary health care to the citizens of this City and is a vital community asset which must be protected; and WHEREAS, the Council is cognizant of the need for Maryview Hospital to establish a satellite facility in our western suburbs to allow the Hospital to better serve its historical service area population which includes residents of Northern Suffolk, the Western Branch area of Chesapeake and Isle of Wight County as well as the citizens of Portsmouth but is concerned that the Certificate of Need Application currently pending proposes the relocation of eighty (80) of its hospital beds from its main campus in the center of Portsmouth to a proposed satellite facility in that portion of our western suburbs located in Northern Suffolk. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth endorses the expansion of Maryview Hospital by the establishment of a satellite facility in the growth area of the western suburbs within the boundaries of the City; but the Council expresses its opposition to the relocation of any hospital beds from the Maryview Hospital facility located in Central Portsmouth to a location outside the boundaries of the City. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this Council pledge their time and efforts to assist the Maryview Hospital in evaluating the alternatives available which will assure the continual provision of exemplary health care for the citizens of this City and the surrounding areas. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to all appropriate persons." Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Williams, Webb Nays: None 88-130 - Marianne Wade-Drew, 611 Dekalb Avenue, requested that parking signs be removed from in front of several businesses along the 1800 block of High Street. Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, that the matter be referred to the City Manager for review, and was adopted by unanimous vote.
