March 22~ i98~ <br /> <br />"A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE POSITION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, WITH RESPECT TO MARYVIEW <br />HOSPITAL'S CERTIFICATE OF ~UBLIC NEED APPLICATION FOR THE <br />CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW HOSPITAL IN NORTHERN SUEFOLK~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mar~vview Hospital has submitted a Certificate of <br />Public Need Application to the State Health Commissioner for <br />approval to build a ~ew eighty (80) bed hospital in northern <br />Suffolk at the corner' of College Drive and Towne Point Road; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the members of the Council of the City of Portsmouth <br />have reviewed information pertaining to this proposal as well as <br />Maryview Hospital's proposal to expand the Hospital f:acility <br />located in central Portsmouth and the impact each of these actions <br />will have on the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Maryview Hospital has provided exemplary health care <br />to the citizens of this City and is a vital community asset which <br />must be protected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council is cognizant of the need for Maryview <br />Hospital to establish a satellite facility in our western suburbs <br />to allow the Hospital to better serve its historical service area <br />population which includes residents of Northern Suffolk, the <br />Western Branch area of Chesapeake and Isle of Wight County as well <br />as the citizens of Portsmouth but is concerned that the <br />Certificate of Need Application currently pending proposes the <br />relocation of eighty (80) of its hospital beds from its main <br />campus in the center of Portsmouth to a proposed satellite <br />facility in that portion of our western suburbs located in <br />Northern Suffolk. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth endorses the expansion of Maryview Hospital by the <br />establishment of a satellite facility in the growth area of the <br />western suburbs within the boundaries of the City; but the <br />Council expresses its opposition to the relocation of any hospital <br />beds from the Maryview Hospital facility located in Central <br />Portsmouth to a location outside the boundaries of the City. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this Council <br />pledge their time and efforts to assist the Maryview Hospital in <br />evaluating the alternatives available which will assure the <br />continual provision of exemplary health care for the citizens of <br />this City and the surrounding areas. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she hereby <br />is, directed to forward copies of this Resolution to all <br />appropriate persons." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Williams, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 88-130 - Marianne Wade-Drew, 611 Dekalb Avenue, requested <br />that parking signs be removed from in front of several businesses <br />along the 1800 block of High Street. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, that the <br />matter be referred to the City Manager for review, and was adopted <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
