Elimination IReduction "Write - Off" "Abatement" of Delinquent Taxes and Fees <br />due to the shorter timeframe in executing the Tax Sale. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />. Adoption of the New City Code Section, 35-6(C) as presented. Vision Principle: <br />Thriving Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Next step: <br />. Identification and confirmation of those Real Estate Parcels eligible for Tax Sale <br />after One (1) Year as of December 31, 2010. <br />. Performance of the Due Diligence required to bring the delinquent Real Estate <br />parcel to Tax Sale via Public Auction. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006) BY AMENDING SECTION 35-6 THEREOF TO <br />AllOW THE SALE OF REAL ESTATE WITH TAX DELINQUENCIES OF ONE YEAR <br />OR MORE." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />11 - 259 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate the sum of $350,000 in the FY <br />2010-11 City Garage Fund from the unappropriated fund balance in the FY 2010- <br />11 City Garage Fund to pay increased fuel costs. Vision Principle: Bold New <br />Directions. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The FY-11 fuel budget was based on the expected wholesale fuel cost of $2.85 <br />per gallon. Fuel peaked at $3.51 per gallon on May 11, 2011 resulting in a budget deficit <br />of $350,000. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. There are many factors that affect actual fuel expenditures. Some factors can be <br />controlled while others such as fuel cost can not. Steps have been taken to reduce fuel <br />consumption in an effort to reduce the variance between budget and expenditures. <br /> <br />Financial impact: <br />. There are adequate funds remaining In the City Garage Fund to cover this <br />request. No additional funding is required. <br /> <br />Recommended Action: <br />. Adoption of the ordinance. Vision Principle: Bold New Directions. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />.
