<br />June 14. 2011 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 12-183 of the City Code requires Council approval to <br />exceed an original contract amount by more than 25% or $50,000, whichever is greater; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, while the project is approaching completion, there are still necessary <br />change orders resulting from underground conflicts and grading of adjacent properties <br />to minimize flooding that will require the project to exceed the 25% limit on change <br />orders by approximately $75,000, but will not exceed the approved budget. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia that, pursuant to Section 12-183 of the City Code, the City Engineer is <br />authorized to expend the additional funds necessary to complete the Crawford Parkway <br />Seawall Repairs Capital Improvement Project within the approved budget." <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Whitehurst, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />11 - 238 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />11 - 239 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />'" Vice Mayor Whitehurst asked that City Council keep their promise of going back and <br />working on the budget. <br /> <br />'" Mr. Moody agreed with Vice Mayor Whitehurst with regards to City Council going <br />back and reviewing the budget. He also thanked the City Manager and Staff for <br />making many of the museums free to military families. <br /> <br />'" Mayor Wright informed citizens of his attendance to many of the graduations in the <br />City and congratulated the school system on a job well done. <br /> <br />11 - 240 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />11 - 241 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Lora Cress, 4509 Templar Drive, asked that City Council allow her to plant flowers at <br />the Churchland Library. <br /> <br />2. Lieutenant Lee Cherry, 701 Crawford Street, wanted to clarify statements made with <br />regards to the Sheriff's Department. <br /> <br />3. Tony Goodwin, 38 Linden Avenue, voiced his concern with the budget cuts for the <br />Sheriff's Department. <br /> <br />4. Dennis Meagle, 96 B Cushing Street, voiced his concern with the budget cuts for the <br />Sheriff's Department. <br /> <br />5. Pastor Kevin Kelly, 4404 Southampton Arch, voiced his concern with the possibility <br />of Project Life Saver and the Scared Straight Program being cut from the budget. <br /> <br />6. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, voiced his concern with the budget cuts to the <br />Sheriff's Department. <br /> <br />7. Rolanduis Garner, 503 Truman Circle, voiced his concern with the budget cuts to the <br />Sheriff's Department. <br />
