On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the following ordinance was approved on first reading, and by unanimous 9ore: "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $65,000 FROM THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE PURCHASE FROM TIDEWATER REGIONAL TRANSIT OF A 5.02 ACRE PARCEL OFF-GREENWOOD DRIVE." 88-225 - Letter from the City Manager of an ordinance to appropriate $20,000 for Seawall. recommending adoption improvements to the "In an effort to expedite the proposed improvement to the High Street Ferry Dock, I am submitting a request to appropriate $20,000 from the Capital Improvement Program (repairs to Seawall account). The City Engineer has bid the project and should have a recommendation for award by City, Council's June 28, 1988 meeting (in time~ for a second: reading of this appropriation ordinance). As requested, the Downtown Portsmouth Association, Portsmouth Partnership, Seaboard Coastline Associates, Chamber of Commerce and The Max have been requested to raise 50% of~the anticipated cost to improve the ferry dock. City Council action on June 28, 1988 would be contingent upon the following: o Acceptable contract price o Approval by Norfolk to participate 50/50 with extended ferry operation o Contribution from private sector for ferry dock improvements o Army Corps of Engineers approval of design I, therefore, reCommend~ that city Council-approve on first reading the request t~o~ apprb~priate $20,000 for improvements to the Seawall."
