Barnes, E. G. Corprew, Jrt, J. <br />Robert Gray, James C~ Hawks, L. Louise Lucas, J. Herbert Simpson, <br />George L. Hanbury, II, City Manager, Steve Lieberman, City <br />Attorney <br /> <br /> Rev. Ben A. Beamer, Sr., Pastor; Ebenezer Baptist Church <br />opened ~the meeting with prayer, followed by the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb welcomed all visitors in attendance. <br /> <br /> Councilman Simpson made presentation to the Mayor Glori~ O. <br />Webb. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, minutes of a <br />called meetin? of June 27, 1988; minutes of a called meeting.!of <br />June 28, 1988, minutes of a regular meeting of June 28, 1988,I <br />minutes of a scheduled meeting of July 1, 1~988; minuteS of a ~ <br />regular meeting of July 1, 1988; minutes of a called meeting ~of <br />July 5, ~1988, to be approved as received, and was adopted by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br />88-254 Election of a Vice Mayor. <br /> <br />Mayor Webb made the follOwing comments: <br /> <br /> "A question has been raised within the last week regarding <br />the procedure that the City Council used in the election of the <br />Vice Mayor and the Council has been briefed by the City Attorney, <br />Mr. Steve Lieberman. Mr. Lieberman shared with us the <br />alternatives available to us. It was the Council's decision that <br />the election of the Vice Mayor is a major responsibility, <br />performed by this body and should be above reproach and <br />accordingly with the concurrence of the full City Council. The <br />chair is requesting that we reaffirm the election of a Vice <br />Mayor." <br /> <br />F. H. Hobby, 1612 "A" Street spoke concerning the item. <br /> <br /> John Gray Wallace, 957-C Suburban Parkway, spoke concerning <br />the item. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lucas nominated Mr. Corprew, for Vice Mayor. <br /> <br />Mr. Simpson nominated Mr. Gray, for V~ce Mayor. <br /> <br /> As there were no further nominations the Mayor closed th~ <br />nomination of the Vice Mayor. <br /> <br />Mr. Gray was elected Vice Mayor by the following vote: <br /> <br />Gray: Barnes, Hawks~ Simpson, Webb, Gray <br />Corprew: Lucas, Corprew <br /> <br /> 88-t92(a) - The <br />first reading at ~he <br />up and read. <br /> <br />following ordinance, as amended, <br />regular meeting of June 28, 1988, <br /> <br />approved on <br />was taken <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS NECESSARY FOR OPERATION OF <br />THE CITY GOVERNMENT FOR AND DURING THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING <br />JULY 1, 1988 AND ENDIN~ JUNE 30, 1989". <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the foll <br />ordinance was adopted on final reading: <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Hawks, Gray, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br />Nays: Corprew <br /> <br /> <br />
