Department of~.Housing_& Urban .Development and the <br />Virginia Housing Developmenn Authority have allocated the City of <br />Portsmouth $427,000 in Rental Rehabilitation Program funds for <br />fis~a~ year~s,1986, 1987 and.1988 <br /> <br /> LQcally, the Rental Rehabilitation Program ~s administered by <br />the Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing ~uthori.ty. Owners of <br />rental property in Brighton, Prentis Park, Cradock, Park View, an¢ <br />Truxtun are eligible to participate in the program. Since 1984, <br />106 rental units have been renovated and occupied by lower income <br />families through this program, including the 96 unit Bay City <br />Apartme.nts..on Lincoln-S~reet. <br /> <br /> FY~1988 marks the beginnin~ of a,major change.in the Rental <br />Rehabilitation Program that~should prove ~eneficial to owners, <br />tenants:~ and the City of Por{smouth~ HUD has'~raised the maximum <br />grants from $5,000 per unit. The new maxlmum subsidy, is $5,000 <br />per uni% with no bedrooms, $6,500 per unit with one bedroom, <br />$7,500~ per unit with two.bedrooms, and $8)500 per unit with three <br />or.more bedrooms. Archbell, Inc. <br /> <br /> "The 1987-92 Capital Improvement-Program_includes funds for <br />Streetscape, Phase IV. This phase of the Priority Action Plan <br />involves installatio~ of new curb and gutter,, brick sidewalks, <br />decorative street lights, tree planters and replacement of the <br />streets from Washington Street to Chestnut Street. <br /> <br /> <br />
