Au.qust 22, 2000 <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he hereby is <br />authorized to execute, on behalf of the City all necessary agreements and other <br />documents required in conjunction with acquiring such rights of way." <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />00 - 208 - Adoption of a motion to transfer $276,041 from the Grants Contingency Fund <br />for the Victim Witness Assistance Program <br /> <br />The Department of Criminal Justice Service has awarded the grant to the <br />Commonwealth's Attorney's office to provide comprehensive information and <br />direct services to witnesses and victims of crime. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />· Adoption of a motion to transfer $276,041 from the Grants Contingency Fund for the <br />Victim Witness Assistance Program. <br /> <br />Purpose and Need: <br /> <br />· The Department of Criminal Justice Services has awarded a grant in the amount of <br />$276,041 to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Victim Witness Program. <br /> <br />· The Victim Witness Program provides comprehensive information and direct <br />services to crime victims and witnesses in accordance with the Crime Victim and <br />Witness Right Act and other applicable victims' rights laws. <br /> <br />· For FY 2000, the program accomplishments included providing direct program <br />services to 654 victims of crimes; services to 704 witnesses; and filing 63 compensation <br />claims resulting in $95,600 in awards to victims. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br /> <br />· There is no cash match required. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to transfer $276,041 <br />from the Grants Contingency Fund for the Victim Witness Assistance Program, and was <br />adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Benn, Griffin, Moody, Pitts, Robinett, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />00 - 209 - Board and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />00 -210 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Councilman Whitehurst acknowledged that he was elected Vice Chairman of <br />Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA). <br /> <br />Councilman Moody spoke on news article pertaining to town hall meetings. <br /> <br />00 - 211 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Louis Whitehead, 4415 County Street, President of Westhaven Area Civic League, <br /> spoke on bicycle theft and violence in his neighborhood. <br /> <br />2. Raleigh Harsley, 2124 Peach Street, spoke on conditions in his neighborhood. <br /> <br />3. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on guidelines for City Council <br /> meetings. <br /> <br /> <br />
