506 <br /> <br />1989 <br /> <br /> - NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br />89-267 Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Barnes, that <br />the following ordinance p~rtaining to the se.~ting of salaries <br />for the unclassified positions be approved, and was adopted on <br />first and final' reading, and by the following ~ote~ <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 13 OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN (ORDINANCE NO. <br />1989-47), PERTAINING TO SALARIES FOR UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS." <br /> <br />Ayes: <br />Nays: <br /> <br />~Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Simpson, Webb <br /> <br />89-268 Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, that <br />the City Manager write a letter opposing the issuance of an ABC <br />License to the facility on West Norfolk Road known as Paradise <br />City, and was adopted on first and final reading, and by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br />89-269 Motion of Mr. Corprew and seconded by Mr. Barnes, <br />that the City Manager look into a possible ~new location for the <br />Senior Citizens who have outgrown the Joseph E. Parker Center, <br />and was adopted on first and final reading, and by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br />89-270 Robert Jones, 3925 Two Oaks Road, representing self, <br />requested that Council look into his retirement from the Police <br />Department and brought a copy of a news broadcast from 1986 for <br />Council to view. <br /> <br />89-271 Joseph E. Knight, 4820 Portsmouth Boulevard, <br />representing self, commended the city on several projects done <br />in city and requested that several trees in his block of <br />Portsmouth Boulevard be examined and possibly removed before <br />they fall on private property. <br /> <br />89-272 Mr. John L. Forgette, 2168 Campostella Road, <br />Chesapeake, representing Paradise City, spoke in favor of <br />establishment operating on West Norfolk Road. <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />89-273 The following citizens spoke in opposition to the <br />opening of Paradise City on West Norfolk Road: <br /> <br /> Mary Denaro, ~724 Shoreline Drive, representing Churchland <br />Association-Hatton Point civic League. <br /> <br /> John F. Bailey, Jr., 203 Dixie Avenue, representing the <br />Federation of Civic Clubs. <br /> <br /> Rev. Rick Col~, 3309 Jackson Street, representing'West <br />Norfolk Baptist Church. <br /> <br /> Rev. H. L. Burwell, 2401 Effingham Street, representing <br />First Baptist Church, West Norfolk. <br /> <br /> Donna Hudson, 3729 Linnet Lane, representing The School <br />House Market and Cafe. <br /> <br /> Mildred J. Wyatt, 3802 Progress Avenue, representing West <br />Norfolk. <br /> <br /> Cameron C.
