Harris, <br />Director of the Department of Criminal Justice Services, that the <br />City has been awarded a grant to continue the Victim Witness <br />Assistance Program. <br /> <br /> This program, which is administered by the Commonwealth <br />Attorney's Office, is an integral part of Portsmouth criminal <br />justice system. Not only does it impreve the efficiency and <br />effectiveness of the criminal justice process, but it also <br />provides direct aid for victims and witnesses-when they need it. <br />The services include information about the dispositions to all <br />witnesses and victims, ~compensati.on, transportation, escort <br />services, parking, crisis intervention and counseling, child care <br />referral services and educational presentations and tours of <br />Portsmouth's Court System. <br /> <br /> The grant award is $421,360.federaI f~nding and $578 local <br />(from the Commonwealth ~ttorney's budget). I recommend your <br />acceptance of this award and the transfer of a total of $42,938 <br />from the Grants Contingency Account to operate the program.~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr..
