Portsmouth public safety officials to be informed of repeal of prior ordinance. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006), BY AMENDING SECTION 38-366 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO GUNS ON CITY LAKES AND LAKE PROPERTY." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />09 - 593 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $7,756.15 from <br />the U.S. Department of Justice-Bureau of Justice Assistance and appropriating said <br />funds in the FY 2009-2010 Grants Fund to reimburse the City for bulletproof vests for <br />Police and Sheriff's department personnel. Vision Principle: Thriving Neighborhoods <br />and a Sense of Community. <br /> <br />Background: <br />. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $7,756.15 from <br />the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance to reimburse 50% of the cost <br />expended for the purchase of bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's <br />Office personnel working on the streets. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />. The grant will be used to reimburse 50% of the cost expended for the purchase of <br />bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's Office personnel working on the <br />streets. These funds will be used to offset some of the costs for the purchase of <br />bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's Office personnel working on the <br />streets. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />. The grant award amount is $7,756.15 of Department of Justice funds for the <br />purchase of bulletproof vests for Portsmouth Police and Sheriff's Department. The City <br />has no obligation once the grant has ended. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />.
