November 24. 2009 Next Steps Following Council Action: . New ordinance to be sent to Municipal Code Corporation. . Portsmouth public safety officials to be informed of repeal of prior ordinance. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, to adopt the following ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: "ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (2006), BY AMENDING SECTION 38-366 THEREOF PERTAINING TO GUNS ON CITY LAKES AND LAKE PROPERTY." Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None 09 - 593 - Adoption of an ordinance accepting a grant in the amount of $7,756.15 from the U.S. Department of Justice-Bureau of Justice Assistance and appropriating said funds in the FY 2009-2010 Grants Fund to reimburse the City for bulletproof vests for Police and Sheriff's department personnel. The Portsmouth Police Department has received grant funding of $7,756.15 from the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance to reimburse 50% of the cost expended for the purchase of bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's Office personnel working on the streets. Discussion: . The grant will be used to reimburse 50% of the cost expended for the purchase of bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's Office personnel working on the streets. These funds will be used to offset some of the costs for the purchase of bulletproof vests for the police department and Sheriff's Office personnel working on the streets. Financial Impact: . The grant award amount is $7,756.15 of Department of Justice funds for the purchase of bulletproof vests for Portsmouth Police and Sheriff's Department.
